Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Course
Intended Audience:
For pediatricians, emergency physicians, family physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies.
Course Description:
Designed for pediatricians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, emergency physicians, and other healthcare providers who care for infants and children, the PALS course teaches participants to recognize infants and children at risk of cardiopulmonary arrest, strategies needed to prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children, and the skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.
Skills taught include:
- Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
- The systematic approach to pediatric assessment
- Effective respiratory management
- Management of shock
- Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
- Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
- Effective resuscitation team dynamics

**Students are encouraged to complete the online PALS self-asessment test at www.heart.org/eccstudent (enter the word "palsprovider" when prompted for access) prior to attending class.**
If you complete the course at the RESQ facility, cards will be issued the same day.
